First Days in Seattle

We arrived in Seattle during the first days of spring, with regular blue skies and bright flowers starting to peek out everywhere.

After so many hours travelling, we were grateful to arrive at our temporary home in Redmond.  The corporate housing was very pretty, with a great view over the river out the back.  It was in a complex with lots of families around.  The kids had friends to play with every day.  The stairs just weren’t so great up to the bedrooms.  They were quite steep and all of us slipped at least once, hubby taking a fall.

Driving there was interesting, especially since we were tired.  “Wrong side of the road” kept making it feel like we would be t-boned every time we turned left.  A friend had given us the tip “righty tighty, lefty loosy”.  It doesn’t just work for opening jars.  When you turn right, keep tight to the edge and when you turn left, keep loose.  It is easy when there are lots of cars around, since you mostly follow the other drivers.  The concentration has to kick in when you are the only driver around. The roads are mostly quite well-marked and spacious, which made it a lot easier.

The trees here are tall and green, new shoots were budding everywhere.  The cloudy skies were something to watch, the kids finding creatures in the sky.

A beautiful walking trail runs behind the corporate housing.  It runs along the river.  It was permanently filled with families walking their dogs, cycling or rowing on the river.

All the streets are lined with trees as well.  It makes you feel a lot closer to nature.  All the plants and trees camouflages the buildings.  It doesn’t feel like you are close to a city.

Redmond is really beautiful.  We are slowly finding our way around and getting lost a lot less often!

Easter at Fox Hollow Farm

We arrived in Seattle near Easter time.  My hubby surprised us with tickets to Fox Hollow Farm for an Easter hunt.  It was such a fun day!  The farm is beautiful with lots of animals and spaces for the kids to explore.

It was spring, with all the trees in full bloom.

And of course there was the giant Easter egg hunt…

The animals were gorgeous, quite happy to get a rub.

The peacock not so much!

Spring was a beautiful time to arrive in Seattle, not the most practical, but definitely a visual feast.

New life, new hope

Even though the weather doesn’t always make us feel like we have entered Spring, the plants have decided it is time to bloom.  I took a walk up to my son’s high school (can’t believe my oldest is nearly in high school!) to hand in his enrolment forms.  Everywhere there are flowers and buds.  The walk took a while with me stopping regularly to take new images.

We even had some beautiful sunlight (though the wind was a little cold).  When the sunlight hit the bright colours, the flowers just glowed.

I lowe all the tiny flowers that come out in Spring.

Dandelions are always around.  A little bit ethereal….

For those interested in updating the family albums or brightening your home’s walls with new images, I have a new special!  Check my website for the details (link below).

Blossoms

One of the locations we went had a beautiful blossom tree.

Every time a gust comes through, a confetti shower of small, white blossom leaves come falling down.

I got one of my fellow students to model for me.  One of the dangers of being a photography student, you have to stand in as model quite often.

I played around with this picture a bit.  I just really like the dreaminess…

Ruffey Lake Park

One of the many parks we need to explore…  Invited to a birthday party at the park, we were astonished as to the size of it.  The kids had an absolute blast playing on the playground.  The huge slide was one of the favourites with the kids.

So were the tunnel slides.

The parkland is really beautiful.  Lots of space for ball games, walks (with or without the dog) and cycling.

This is Ruffy (no, really!).

Signs of spring are everywhere.

Apparently this old pear tree, over a hundred years, still bears fruit.  It is a remnant of the fruit orchard that used to be in this area.

Spring around the corner

More and more flowers are blooming.  Some trees are covered in blossoms.  The walkways are  often covered in petals.

The last few days have really been wonderful weather, though Saturday the wind started blowing really hard.  Waiting to see how the next week turns out.

(Ok, so I am a sucker for flowers!)
