Sunrise from The Bluff, Barwon Heads

My last chance to take sunrise photos came on the Monday.  I had been using my mobile phone as an alarm and the battery was on its last legs.  My daughter got restless at 5:10am, so I decided to just get up. The timing couldn’t have been more prefect.

I walked to the top of the bluff.  This is the view from the top, from first light to full sun up.  In the distance you can see Mornington Peninsula.  You can also see Queenscliff and Sorrento, where the ferry crosses.

 

Some definite advantages to getting up early when on holiday!

Sunrise at Barwon Heads Bluff

Before we left I looked up the times for sunrise.  I set the alarm and actually managed to wake up and be ready on time.  The nice thing about being up so early (sunrise was at 6:15 so I was up at 5:45), is that everyone else is still fast asleep.  It is amazingly peaceful and quiet.

 

I had the beach all to myself.

 

The sky had started getting a little colour. The water had small ripples running across it from a really light breeze.  The sand on the shore was full of little “bobbles”.  I would guess that was from little crabs and sea creatures burrowing in the sand.

 

The reflections from the sunrise were fantastic.  I walked up to the rock pools at the top of the beach and took most of my shots from there.

 

The fishing boats were rushing out from the river mouth to get an early start to their day.  It was quite something to see them charging across the water and around t he bluff.

Then the sun came up…

The colours are just so awesome!

 

 

Walking back I turned around and got this beautiful view.

Fish and chips on the beach

Being first time campers, we were a little nervous.  Setting up the tent was not as difficult as we had expected, but still took quite a bit of time.  We decided to just go pick up some fish and chips for dinner, after the stress of hammering in tent pegs.  We popped over to the Surfing beach across from the Bluff at Barwon Heads.  The timing was perfect. 

The sun was just setting, people were walking their dogs and kids were playing in the water.  It was such a fantastic start to a few days of family time.

The clouds reflected the last of the rays.  The colours were truly glorious.

The last of the light was warm and promised a summer of sun, beach and clear skies.

We spent the rest of the evening at camp, chatting to friends and forgetting about the cares at home.

I set the alarm to catch the sunrise and actually got up the next morning… in time!

Surviving a camping trip

We made it!  And our tent did not blow away! 

It was a fantastic weekend with wonderful friends.  Every day felt like a blessing.  I am however now extremely, completely worn out.  There is a massive pile of washing with tons of sand thrown in.  I thought I would quickly share one of the first shots I took over the weekend (the second I think). 

With a beautiful start like this, you can image how great the rest of it was.
